The Dos and Don'ts of Valentine’s Day 2019
We've put together our best tips to make sure your Valentine’s Day is one to remember this year.
Whether it's your first Valentine's Day with your partner or your twentieth, February 14th comes round every year and we always find ourselves scrambling around for ideas of how to show that special person just how much they mean to us. If you're thinking of proposing this Valentine's Day, or just looking for a simple piece of diamond jewellery to present to your beau, Diamond Heaven have put together some tips and tricks so that you can make this February 14th one to remember!
What Are the Origins of Valentine's Day
Firstly, why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? We all know it has something to do with someone called Saint Valentine but there is a great deal of mystery which surrounds the official story behind the day. Debate stems from as to whether the day is supposed to mark the death or burial of Saint Valentine, whilst others argue the day was an attempt by the Christian church to "Christianize" the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. It wasn't until the middle ages that the day was even thought to be linked to romance! While the origins are still unclear for the day, it is now seen as the day of the year to shower your loved one with affection. So, what are some things to do (or definitely avoid!)
Dos and Don'ts of Valentine's Day
Don't Forget!
While this one may seem obvious, sometimes life catches up on us and we forget things. It's normal; we are all human! So circle the calendar, set reminders on your phone the week before or give yourself a deadline to have things arranged by. Whatever you need to do, just don't forget to do it!
Do Plan in Advance
We've all heard the saying, "good things take time". Well that also includes planning a special evening for a loved one. For example, if you are looking to propose in their favourite restaurant, give yourself plenty of time and research how to buy perfect engagement ring, book the table way in advance, arrange transport to and from the restaurant a week in advance and do as much as you can to ensure the evening goes ahead without a hitch! Let's be honest, nothing could be worse than a Valentine's Day with the wrong ring, no table reservation and no taxi to get home...
Do Agree on Getting Gifts (or Not)
If your relationship is quite new, you might not be sure if your relationship is ready for a Valentine's Day gifts or if your partner even really celebrates it. If they do, then you have the question of how much to spend on a gift; it can feel like a bit of a minefield! The simplest way to sort this is to just ask. It may seem a bit daunting, but, to stop any embarrassment on the day, just ask and agree on a rough budget!
Don't Put Jewellery in Food
So, you've agreed on getting gifts or have decided on proposing. Perfect!
Now, we've seen it hundreds of times in the movies. The dessert or glass of champagne is brought over to the table by a waiter with the ring hidden in and the partner has no idea of the imminent proposal, the perfect romantic surprise. That is, until the ring is consumed by accident!
If you want to surprise your partner with a romantic Valentine's Day proposal, the dessert and champagne are still perfect but nothing says "perfect proposal" than a stunning engagement ring presented in a beautiful ring box. Your partner will see the full beauty of the engagement ring you've taken the time to choose especially for them, and you'll be sure to get the "yes" you are looking for.
Do Make It Romantic and Personal
At the end of the day, Valentine's Day is about showing your partner you care. If that is through a thoroughly planned out proposal or a quiet night in with take-out, as long as it is romantic and thought-out with your partner in mind you can't really go wrong. If they love dogs, pick the quirky valentines day card with dogs plastered over it. If they have a favourite artist, have their music playing through dinner. It's the little things that matter.
