Here are the Valentine’s Day proposal trends of the UK.

February 14th is one of the most romantic days of the year. Couples all over the world will make the effort to spend time with each other. Whether this means going out for dinner or gifting each other thoughtful presents, the world will be full of love. Obviously you should tell your beau that you love them as much as you can - don't just save it for one day a year. However, Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days of the year for people to get engaged, following Christmas.

The history of Valentine's Day originates back to February 14th 270 A.D, after Priest Valentine was found marrying couples in secret (this went across Emperor Claudius's ban). On the night of Priest Valentine's execution, legend states that he'd left a note signed, "from your Valentine."

If you're thinking about proposing on Valentine's Day, then check out these Valentine's Day proposal trends across the UK. Don't forget to check out our 2018 Valentine's Day gift guide here.

16% of betrothed couples got engaged on Valentine's Day

What was really interesting to note is that 16% of engaged couples in the UK were proposed to with a sparkling diamond ring on Valentine's Day. Whether this is Valentine's Day 2017, 2016 or later, we're not sure, but it comes as no surprise - afterall 40% of engagements are expected to happen between November and February. 9% of 16-24 year olds stated that they would like to get engaged on Valentine's Day,

5% of men want to propose to their other half on Valentine's Day

What's interesting is that our survey showed that 5% of men want to get down on one knee and present an engagement ring to their partner, and 5% of males in the UK have already popped the question to their partner on February 14th. Alongside this, the younger the couple, the more they love tradition; 16% of 16-24 year olds said they would like their partner to ask for their hand in marriage on Valentine's Day, but only 9% said they would actually propose. What's interesting is that only 2% of females would like to propose to their partner on Valentine's Day - perhaps their waiting for the next Leap Year!

.... But 29% of the UK state that getting engaged on Valentine's Day is a cliché

What's interesting is that 29% of the population stated that they think proposing on Valentine's Day is a cliché , and only 4% of 45-54 year olds and 3% of 55+ admitted they'd like to get engaged on February 14th. 43% of males also agreed that proposing on Valentine's day was a cliché. That being said, Valentine's Day is one of the most romantic days of the year, and a Valentine's Day proposal over a romantic dinner will certainly make it memorable.

However, 26% of people believe that a Valentine's Day proposal IS romantic

We've said it before and we'll say it again - Valentine's Day is one of the most romantic days of the year, and as long as the proposal is unique to the couple, and is filled with love, then it will be perfect!
