Engagement Ring Trends 2022

Engagement Ring Trends 2022

We explore the latest engagement ring trends for 2022 and examine the styles that are set to shape the year.

As we head into the new year, we’re already seeing the continuation of some 2021 engagement ring trends as well as the emergence of some exciting new ones.

Although trends come and go, engagement rings have been a staple of jewellery collections for centuries. While some styles will inevitably go out of fashion (and come back in again), others feature a timeless chic that is sure to look as good in 20 years as it does today.

Trends are important and often provide a starting point when searching for your perfect ring but ultimately the choice will come down to tastes and personal preference. In this piece, we’ve examined some of the most notable 2022 engagement ring trends for you to think about before you buy.

Vibrant Coloured Stones

This is a trend that was ever-present throughout 2021. The use of coloured diamonds and other gemstones allows you to create a ring with a really unique look.

Using vibrant colours that you find in yellow diamonds, green emeralds or red rubies can also help to attach more meaning to the piece. For example, if your partner’s favourite colour holds significant meaning to them then choosing a stone to match could be a good choice.

A great example of a coloured gemstone ring came when Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton back in 2010 using Diana’s beautiful blue sapphire engagement ring.

Vintage & Art Deco Styles

It’s no secret that vintage styles have very much been in for the last couple of years. Whether it's styling that harks back to the early 20th century or that take on a more art deco approach, certain cuts scream vintage chic.

One of the most popular is the marquise cut. This style features an oval design that often includes a halo of smaller stones that creates a stunning effect when worn.

These traditional styles are perfect for someone with classic tastes and are sure to never truly go out of fashion.

Classic Oval Cut Rings

Although its true oval cut engagement rings lost some momentum in 2021, we’re expecting to see that change in 2022. People still very much love the classic oval shape due in part to an increased surface area making diamonds appear bigger than they actually are.

Oval cut rings are particularly popular when used with a vintage or solitaire setting, making them another ideal choice for anyone with more traditional tastes.

Sustainable Engagement Rings

Lab-grown diamonds were all the rage in both 2020 and 2021 with their popularity set to continue. They offer a more environmentally friendly option than traditional diamonds due to them being created in labs, rather than mined.

Championed by many celebrities including Megan Markle, Bindi Irwin and Penelope Cruz, lab-grown diamonds look and feel identical to natural ones. However, thanks to the reduced labour involved in their production they are both cheaper and greener options.
