Are These the Worst Engagements Ever?

We’ve scoured the internet to find the worst proposal stories ever, so that you can learn from their mistakes!

At Diamond Heaven, there's nothing we love more than a romantic proposal. Months are spent shopping for the perfect engagement ring; what cut should you get? In what metal should you set the stone? Will you choose a diamond on gemstone? Should you have a destination proposal? Will you go back to the first place you met and pop the question? When will you announce your wonderful news? WIll you tell everyone on social media? Will you be more comfortable with a public or private proposal?

Before you even ask, we know one thing is for sure - you and your partner should discuss what you want in life before popping the question. We've scoured the internet to find the worst proposal stories ever, so that you can learn from their mistakes!

The Second Hand Embarrassment

"My friend was at the Phillies game last night and witnessed a failed marriage proposal. The dude told his wife (sorry- girlfriend) to "stand up honey I'll clean off your seat" and from there it went all downhill ultimately she said no and left. The guy was entirely demoralized in front of thousands of people and I honestly don't know what could be worse."

The Food Court Conundrum

In a busy food court in America, a young suited man gets down on one knee. People enjoying their afternoon meals turn around - all eyes are on the young lady who's hands are on her face. An acoustic singer serenades the couple with a shaky version of Neil Diamond's ‘Sweet Caroline'. He then asks the question and she RUNS AWAY. You can watch the whole video and wish you could scratch your eyes out here.

The Awkward Groping Situation

"I knew a guy in New England who decided to propose to his girlfriend in a way she would always remember, during a shared experience.  They were both outdoorsy, so he took her hiking one sunny Saturday afternoon.  He tied the ring to the strings inside his sweatpants.

Once they finally reached their destination, he kneeled down and starting fumbling in his pants.  Dude couldn't get the ring untied and just knelt there, groping around his crotch for a good minute and a half while his girlfriend stared at him, horrified."

The Weed Induced Proposal

"My husband proposed during a weed induced f*****g session. I said yes, and he never remembered afterward. We got married anyway"

The Drunk Irish Man

"I proposed to my wife in Dublin, which is more difficult than it sounds because it's not a romantic city. After dinner, I decided that the Halfpenny Bridge was about the best place to get the job done. Right in the middle of my proposal, I hear the unmistakable sound of a drunk guy pissing off the bridge not 10 feet behind me. Ireland has never let me down."

The Not So Happy Meal

"My dad proposed at McDonalds. No joke. My mom told him to stop right there because she was not being proposed to in a McDonald's. Haha. To be fair, he had lived in Mexico (and was very poor) his entire life and I don't think he knew the cultural stigma of McDonalds. He redid the proposal at home later. They've been married 23 years."

The Continuous Drunk Cycle

"Once I drunkenly proposed to my boyfriend only to face plant a wooden fence when attempting to go down on one knee ... #justsaying. Always happens when i'm drunk..."

The One With the Wrong Name

"My mate did it in front of all his mates and called her by his ex's name...  It was so embarrassing even I wanted to crawl into a hole and die."

The Waterfall Engagement

Nature really is beautiful, and it makes the perfect background for that amazing proposal. A man gets down on one knee, his girlfriend is shocked and excitedly yells, ‘yes!' Lots of hugging and tears - all is well, until the girlfriend goes to put the ring on her finger... In the process of getting the ring she drops it and it slides into the fast flowing river. Always think about the surroundings of your proposal. You can watch the video here.

The Slow and Beautiful Train Wreck

"Remember that guy that proposed on reddit and everyone up voted it to the front page? Then she said no. That was like watching a slow beautiful train wreck."

The Jeremy Kyle Proposal

The stage of The Jeremy Kyle Show isn't a place where you'd expect a proposal to happen - even more so after there's been accusations of cheating and a lie detector added to the mix. It turns out weird and wonderful things do happen... watch the video  here.
