What Is The History of Asscher-Cut Diamonds?

The Asscher-Cut gets its name from Joseph Asscher, who patented the cut in 1902. The cut gained popularity during the art deco period but lost popularity during World War 2 when the patent ran out and jewellers attempted in vain to replicate the cut. In the 1980 the Asscher Diamond Co. were granted a royal title by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. In 2001, the grandchildren of Joseph Asscher named the cut 'The Royal Asscher Cut'.
